Causes of Anemia
The three causes of Anemia:
1. Blood Loss
2. Decreased or faulty red blood cell production
3. Destruction of red blood cell
Anemia Caused By Blood Loss
Red blood cells could be lost in bleeding, which can occur slowly over a period of time, and can go undetected. This bleeding can result from:
-Ulcers, Hemorrhoids, Inflammation in the stomach, and Cancer
-Use of NSAID's (nonstoridal anti-inflammatory drugs)
-Menstruation and Childbirth
Anemia Caused By Decreased or Faulty Red Blood Cell Production
Body may not produce enough red blood cells or cells may not function correctly. Cells may be faulty or decreased because of abnormal red blood cells or lack or minerals and vitamins. Conditions with this type of anemia are:
-Sickle cell Anemia
-Iron-deficiency Anemia
-Vitamin deficiency
-Bone marrow and stem cell issues
-Etc.
Anemia Caused By Destruction of Red Blood Cells
If red blood cells are fragile and cannot withstand the routine stress of circulatory system, they could rupture prematurely, causing hymolytic anemia. Known causes of hymolytic anemia include:
-Inherited Conditions (ei, sickle anemia and thalassmia)
-Stressors (ei. infections, drugs, snake or spider venom or certain foods)
-Toxins from advanced liver or kidney disease
-Vascular grafts, prosthetic heart valves, tumors, severe burns, exposure to certain chemicals, severe hypertension, and clotting disorders)
-In rare cases, an enlarged spleen can trap the red blood cells and destroy them before there circulating time is up
